PT2 is 60x32, 128 character, video character/text overlay IP core for Altera FPGAs.

PT2 provides a 60x32, (30 character for 525 line), video character/text overlay. PT2 is ideal for displaying subtitles or closed cpation, time code, user menus, status or error information and channel identifiers.

PT2 is pre-programmed with 70 characters including 0-9, A-Z, a-z and various punctuation marks. However the memory has a 128 character capacity allowing custom patterns to be generated by the user and downloaded to PT2. Each character has a 12x16 pixel size.

PT2 accepts a compliant BT656 video stream, (both 625 and 525 standards), and its associated 27MHz clock and it produces a BT656 output with the overlay. The user can choose to have a background to the characters and can also program the luminance level of both the character and the background so both black on white or white on black displays are possible.

Control and memory are written to and read from using a conventional 8 bit wide microprocessor interface.

PT2 is supplied either as an encrypted 'black-box' file with a fixed 3 year renewable unlimited use license, (Altera only, lower cost), or as an unlimited time, unlimited use license, (all vendors and ASIC/IC). Source code files are supplied as RTL compliant Verilog. PT2 is supplied with 6 months telephone/e-mail support and a 3 year update and bug fix guarantee.
